Meet Lewis Latimore , The Black Man Who Invented The Light Bulbs We Use Today!

Meet Lewis Latimore , The Black Man Who Invented The Light Bulbs We Use Today!

Lewis Howard Latimer was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on September 4, 1848. He learned mechanical drawing in the patent attorney office of Crosby and Gould, Boston, Massachusetts. He invented a toilet system for railroad cars in 1873, referred to as watercloset for railroad cars. He also invented an electric lamp with an inexpensive carbon filament and a threaded wooden socketfor light bulbs. He supervised the installation of carbon filament electriclighting in New York City, Philadelphia, Montreal, and London. He was responsible for preparing the mechanical drawings forAlexander Graham Bell s patent application for his telephone design. Lewis Latimer had the distinction of being the only African American member of the Edison Pioneers, a member of Thomas Edison s engineering division of the Edison Company.
He joined the EdisonElectric Light Company in 1884 and conducted research on electrical lighting. In 1890 he published Incandescent Electric Lighting, a technical engineering book which became a guide for lighting engineers. For years he served as an expert witness in the court battles over Thomas Edison s patents. At the time of Latimer s death in 1928, the Edison Pioneers attributed his “important inventions” to a “keen perception of the potential of the electriclight and kindred industries.” Lewis Latimer invented the carbon filament for electric lighting, replacing the too-fast burning paper filament of Thomas Edison.
Edison’s bulbs were not sustainable, and Latimer’s filaments were not only that, but far more cost-efficient. Latimer previously invented a toilet system for railroad cars, in 1873. he went on to supervise the installation of carbon filament electric lighting in NYC, Philadelphia, Montreal, and London. he was the person who prepared Alexander graham bell’s mechanical drawings and the patent application for bell’s telephone. http://africanleadership.co.uk/

John Boyega Wants Racist ‘Star Wars’ Critics To Know He’s A ‘Confident, Nigerian, Black, Chocolate Man

It’s funny how, in a world of supernatural fantasy, skin color can still raise such concerns.
John Boyega, who’s been cast as Finn, the lead in the upcoming Star Wars saga, The Force Awakens, knows that all too well. Ever since word got out that there would be a black stormtrooper, racists began to show their fangs, with some fans of the franchise threatening to boycott the movie. But guess how Boyega feels about the drama? Unbothered. Asked in an interview with the New York Times how that response made him feel, he said:
“It made me feel fine. I’m grounded in who I am, and I am a confident black man. A confident, Nigerian, black, chocolate man. I’m proud of my heritage, and no man can take that away from me. I wasn’t raised to fear people with a difference of opinion. They are merely victims of a disease in their mind. To get into a serious dialogue with people who judge a person based on the melanin in their skin? They’re stupid, and I’m not going to lose sleep over people. The presale tickets have gone through the roof — their agenda has failed. Miserably.
“I just don’t get it. You guys got every single alien in this movie imaginable to man. With tentacles, five eyes. Aliens that, if they existed, we’d definitely have an issue. We’d have to get them to the government and be, like, “What are you?” Yet what you want to do is fixate on another human being’s color. You need to go back to school and unlearn what you have learned. I think Yoda said that, or Obi-Wan.”
Don’t you love him already? The London-bred actor who’s quickly becoming well versed in the differences between achieving fame in the U.K. versus the U.S., which he said is rather “intense,” made it a point to note when he auditioned for the film everyone was being seen for all of the roles. “I would have been suspicious if it was only black people going in for Finn,” he said. “I would have thought, ‘Oh, maybe there’s an active agenda there.'” Now that he knows there’s not, he also doesn’t feel any sort of achievement in increasing the diversity of the Star Warsfranchise, which to this point hasn’t featured many black characters.
“I don’t know whether I’m proud or anything. I’m happy that we’re able to mesh together in this ensemble cast and create a wonderful story. It’s Hollywood’s fault, for letting this get so far, that when a black person or a female, or someone from a different cultural group is cast in a movie, we have to have debates as to whether they’re placed there just to meet a [quota]. I also understand, on the flip side, where these other mentalities will arise. ‘He’s just placed there for political correctness.’ I don’t hear you guys saying that when Brad Pitt is there. When Tom Cruise is there. Hell, when Shia LaBeouf is there, you guys ain’t saying that. That is just blatant racism.” http://www.clutchmagonline.com/

Breaking News: Pep Guardiola AGREES Chelsea Deal – Announcement Imminent

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly agreed to join Bayern Munich in a three-year deal following Pep Guardiola decision to leave the Bavarians, this is according to Marca.
Ancelotti was relieved off his duty by Real Madrid earlier this year and he has been without a club. He was reportedly on the radar of Liverpool but eventually wasn’t given a contract. He had also revealed that he has a house in London and will fancy move to the Premier league but the Bundesliga holders have now secured his signature as replacement for the Premier League bound Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola is in the final year of his contract with the Allianz Arena outfit and he revealed that he might not be extending his contract as he would fancy a Premier league move. Reports have now emerged that despite Guardiola stating that he would reveal his future next week, he might have agreed to join Chelsea, hence the sack of Mourinho.
Although, it is unclear if Guardiola will move before the end of this season as he still has a valid contract with them but a move in the summer is most probable. On the interim, former Tottenham boss, Juande Ramos will be the helm’s man of Chelsea until the end if this season. http://nigeriana.org/

Roman Abramovic Turns To Didier Drogba For Chelsea's Redemption "

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, has turned to Didier Drogba to help restore the Stamford Bridge outfit back to winning ways after the sack of José Mourinho on Thursday.

The Impact Montreal striker, who is on his off-season break, was in Abidjan when he received the phone call from the Russian oligarch.

“He is happy to be able to return to Chelsea,” a close source told Jeune Afrique.

“It is the club of his heart, even if he had felt betrayed by José Mourinho, who didn’t honour all his commitments to him when he came back for the 2014-2015 season.”

Chelsea, who are about to appoint former coach Guus Hiddink as caretaker until the end of the season, could entrust the Côte d’Ivoire international with a specific mission that is yet to be known.

The 37-year-old played for the Blues from 2004 to 2012 and during the 2014-15 successful campaign, winning more than ten major trophies including the prestigious UEFA Champions League in 2012. Jeune Afrique.

Appeal Court sacks Akwa Ibom governor, Emmanuel; nullifies entire election http://www.premiumtimesng.com/

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has nullified the Akwa Ibom State governorship election of April 11, removing the declared winner, Udom Emmanuel, from office.
Mr. Emmanuel’s election was challenged by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Umana Umana.
At the election tribunal, Mr. Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party, had secured partial victory, with the election cancelled only in 18 out of the state’s 31 local government areas.
The tribunal had ordered a rerun.
Mr. Emmanuel had challenged the ruling, insisting he won in all 31 LGAs.
The APC candidate, Mr. Umana, also appealed against the ruling, seeking a total nullification of the election.
A five-man panel at the Court of Appeal on Thursday dismissed Mr. Emmanuel’s argument, and cancelled the entire election.
The appeal court said the tribunal was wrong in its refusal to comply with section 179 (2) of the Constitution.
The court said having agreed with the evidence of principal witnesses, video evidence, and evidence from state collation agents, the tribunal should have concluded that there was no collation and that votes were merely allotted.
“The question is, if there was no collation, can there be said to be an election,” the court asked. “Indeed where there was no collation of election, there cannot be said to be an election.”
The tribunal was wrong in failing to nullify the entire election, the court ruled, setting aside the judgement of the tribunal in the 13 LGAs.
“The entire election is hereby nullified. The election that brought Mr. Udom is hereby nullified,” it ruled.
The appeal court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct fresh election within 90 days. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/

EFCC arrests Stallion Group chief over N1.3billion “gift” to Dasuki, Yuguda

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the Managing Director of Stallion Group, Harprrie Singh, for allegedly making N1.3billion ‘questionable payment’ to a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda.
The Nigerian conglomerate, owned by the Vaswani brothers, is one of the major companies currently being questioned by the EFCC as part of the ongoing investigation into the messy arm procurement scandal in the office of a former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
A source at the Commission disclosed that Stallion’s name cropped up when investigators scrutinizing transactions carried out by the former NSA with Jabbama Company, a bureau de change operator, stumbled on evidence that Stallion Group also paid N1.375billion to the company, although N100million of the money was later returned, leaving a balance of N1.275billion.
Investigation further revealed that Jabbama converted the money into United States Dollars ($114,750,000) and handed it to Mr. Yuguda, former minister of state for finance, who is already being prosecuted on multiple charges of fraud and money laundering.
Mr. Yuguda was said to have explained to EFCC interrogators that the N1.175billion received from the Stallion Group was at the instance of former NSA, Dasuki, for political purposes.
In the statement he volunteered to interrogators, EFCC sources said, Mr. Singh claimed his company had a $170million contract with the ONSA to supply some vehicles and that, he had already supplied the first batch of 50 vehicles since November 2014 for which he was yet to be paid.
Additionally, he confessed that the money he gave to Mr. Yuguda was at the request of both Messrs Dasuki and Yuguda, to support their party.
Detectives at the EFCC say they are trying to understand why a corporate organisation would, instead of making donation to any political cause through the relevant political parties, route the fund through the NSA.
They are also trying to understand whether the money was an inducement for a contract awarded to the company by the NSA.

Buhari Divides NNPC Into 4 Autonomous Companies "This Day"

Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, has stated that president Muhammadu Buhari has approved the unbundling of the NNPC into four autonomous companies.

“Right now I have just received the president’s approval to embark on the final phase of the restructuring we are doing," he said at a town hall meeting in Abuja.

“That restructuring effort will unbundle this company into four key components: the upstream company, the downstream company, midstream company which is the gas and power company and then of course, the refining group holding company.”

"All of them would operate independently with quasi-managing directors and remit profits and taxes to the coffers of the government," he said.

“A lot of the non-performing but asset-based subsidiaries that we have, we will put them into a venture company where we will begin to help manage them to profitability and hopefully either spin them off ultimately or make them so profitable that we may decide to keep them.

He further explained that the effect of the restructuring would enable NNPC to focus on individuals who will lead as quasi-managing directors to run the entities with the aim of delivering profits for the organisation.

“This is the sort of financial model that we are going to be dealing with over the next few months and trying to set up a performance index that is comparable with the very best in the world,” he explained.

Dino Melaye Used US Bank Account To Remove Tattoo Of Ex-Wife, New York Dermatologist Confirms "http://saharareporters.com/"

A SaharaReporters investigation into the unlawful bank accounts being operated by Senator Dino Melaye has revealed more details about his transactions in the United States, including the use of one of the accounts for a tattoo removal of his ex-wife’s name from his body.
Dino Melaye and his estranged wife Alero Falope Melaye
During the weekend, SaharaReporters broke the story that long after he became a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Melaye continued to operate a checking and savings account with the bank, in violation of Nigeria law, a report he has not denied.
We reported that the accounts were opened in the state of Maryland under the name Daniel Din Melaye.  SaharaReporters also learned that, in violation of US law, he opened the accounts under CampusEdge, which is exclusively reserved for students, thereby masquerading as a student.
In a series of Tweets and stories on Saturday and Sunday, SaharaReporters reported that transactions on the bank accounts continued while he served as a Senator.
Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau strongly and clearly prohibits the use of foreign accounts by elected and public officials.
One transaction on Mr. Melaye’s Bank of America debit card is an approved payment to the New York based Schweiger Dermatology for $1,000.  The company describes itself as a medical and cosmetic dermatology service offering a variety of skin healthcare needs.
Mr. Melaye has repeatedly dodged questions that he operates these bank accounts, despite evidence SaharaReporters has provided including transaction dates, bank statements, card numbers, and location of the transactions.
Contacted by a SaharaReporters correspondent about Mr. Melaye’s financial transactions with the company, an associate with the company confirmed to SaharaReporters that “a man with the name Dino Melaye paid for a tattoo removal on September 1st,” adding: “his payment was paid directly in the office on the day of the procedure.”
It would be recalled that on August 31, Mr. Melaye was one of three Senators who accompanied Senate President Bukola Saraki to New York to participate in the 4th United Nations Conference of Parliamentary Heads at the United Nations, placing him on ground in the city on the date of the dermatological procedure.Senators Andy Uba, Bukola Saraki and Dino Melaye are attending an IPU conference in New York
According to LegisReports, the other Senators involved on the trip were Andy Uba and Shehu Sani.  They were accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Economic Matters, Dr. Uchendu Okoye, and a Special Assistant on Public Partnerships.
With reference to Mr. Melaye’s denial of the tattoo procedure, the Schweiger Dermatology associate pointed out that in addition to the credit card evidence, there are file photos of his procedure in his file.
“I can see that there is a man in the photos getting a tattoo removed from his upper arm, near his shoulder, ” the associate said.
Our correspondent then inquired what the tattoo was that he was removing, to which the associate replied, “It is a person’s name, the name is ALERO,” spelling A-L-E-R-O for our correspondent over the phone.
Our correspondent further learned that it was impossible for someone else to have made the transaction on Mr. Melaye’s card because Schweiger Dermatology only accepts a credit card payment if the card user has a proper ID which matches the name on the credit card.
Dino Melaye and his estranged wife Alero Falope Melaye
It is common knowledge that Mr. Melaye was briefly married to a Mrs. Alero Falope before their matrimony ended in 2014 amidst allegations that he had physically abused Alero over the course of their marriage.
Before then, Mr. Melaye was involved in a messy adultery case when Nollywood actress Bisi Ibidapo Obe accused him of being responsible for her pregnancy.  In response, Mr. Melaye’s wife, Tokunbo, took to Twitter and accused him of lying.
"You have a Masters degree in lying, but I have a PHD in detecting bullsh*t!” she wrote, among others.
She also told her husband, "Trust is like paper…Once it’s crumpled, it can’t be perfect again. There's a limit to what one can take, if you keep piling load on the camels back, there comes a point that back will surely break!”
And then she advised Mr. Melaye, “Never lie to the girl of your life, for the girl of the night.”
The revelation of Mr. Melaye’s recent tattoo removal in New York, using a bank account domiciled in the United States in violation of Nigeria law, comes less than 48 hours after news of these accounts was revealed by SaharaReporters. Mr. Melaye has since vowed to send SaharaReporters publisher Omoyele Sowore to jail.

Mr. Melaye is one of the strongest proponents of the anti-media bill in the Senate, and has cited SaharaReporters in that connection several times, accusing the publication of “insubordination”.
